Getting Started with the College IT Facilities
Login ID
All full and part-time students have a login to the College computer system created automatically as part of the enrollment process. Your username to log into the College PC’s is the 8-digit user ID you were issued with when you enrolled – your lecturer or Guidance Tutor will be able to tell you your ID number if you forget it.
Logging in to PC’s

When you use a College PC, the first screen asks you to press CTRL+ALT+DEL. You will then see a screen with the College’s Acceptable Use Policy – you should read this and then click OK to continue. You will then be taken to the login screen where you type in your 8-digit user ID and password (this is set to your date of birth in ddmmyy format by default). You must make sure that the “Log on to:” section is set as ABCOLSTUDENTS when you log in – this can be changed by clicking the down arrow if necessary and selecting ABCOLSTUDENTS from the list. Click on OK to log in.
Location of PC’s and Software Available
PC’s are located in the IT Centre on the lower ground floor of Gallowgate and the Libraries in the Gallowgate and at the other College centres at Gordon, Altens and Clinterty.
Most College PC’s have CD or DVD writing capabilities. Each PC comes with Microsoft Office 2003, MindManager, Text Help Read & Write Gold and Lunar Screen Magnifier as standard and have Windows XP as the operating system. In addition to this the PC’s in the IT Centre have the same software that is available in the classrooms.
If you need to use specialist software, such as Adobe Creative Suite or 3D Studio Max, the IT Centre staff will be able to direct you to the correct bank of PC’s where this software is installed. The Libraries at Altens and Gordon centre have specialist engineering and music software that is available in the classrooms at those sites.
There are Macs located in the IT Centre and at Gordon Centre Library for student use.
