Lost Property
The purpose of this procedure is to ensure there is clarity on measures to be adopted in the event of theft or suspected theft of College property or of individuals’ property.
This procedure will apply to all users of College premises and all College and individual property.
What to do when you have found / you have lost your property
Gallowgate Centre
- The individual will contact reception/janitors to report loss or theft
- Reception will refer the individual to janitors
- Janitors will check to ascertain if the missing item has been found or handed in
- If the item has not been found or handed in, and where theft is suspected reception/janitors will contact security
- Security staff will contact the police and liaise with the police and the individual
- Where items are found by, or handed into, janitors – janitors will tag and date each item, and note the found item on the Lost Property Record Sheet
- Where possible janitors will contact the individual concerned
- If the individual subsequently claims the item, janitors will check the individual’s identity and will note details on Lost Property Record Sheet
- Where items have not been claimed after two months, janitors will dispose of them to a local charity shop.
Other College Centres
- Individuals will contact reception/janitors to report the loss or theft
- Reception will refer individuals to Security
- Security staff will check to ascertain if the missing item has been found or handed in
- If the item has not been found or handed in, and where theft is suspected, security staff will contact the police and liaise with the police and the individual
- Where items are found by, or handed into, janitors Security staff will tag and date each item, and make a note on the Lost Property Record Sheet
- Where possible, security staff will try to contact the Individual and let them know there property has been found
