Art and Design Diploma Exhibition

The extremely popular end of year Art and Design Diploma Show allows students to show off their work to friends, family and representatives from local businesses. High profile judges gave awards to students in different fields such as Textiles and New Media.

College communication student wins Grampian PR award

Gabriela Balcerzak was this year’s winner of the Grampian PR Group. This is a highly prestigious award given from those in industry to the highest achieving student from HND Communication with Media.

Care Placement of the Year

Aberdeen College hosted an event to thank care placement providers who have supported the College in 2010/2011. The event recognises students who have made a positive impression whilst in their placement, and they received Placement Student of the Year Awards.

SATTT Winner

Chris Milne, 18, from Banchory carved out victory in a national craft competition by winning the Scottish Association of Timber Trade Teachers (SATTT) Competition for 2011. The prestigious competition attracts entries from as far as Shetland and Dumfries and Galloway, and tests students under the age of 20 who are studying at craft level. The students were this year given six hours at their workbenches to complete a key cupboard, complete with opening door, with the final results judged by a panel of three.

Discovery Dinner

Professional Cookery student Debra Bridgewater-Tinegate won the Discovery Dinner’s ‘Healthy and Delicious’ event, which saw members of the public judge the innovative and imaginative menus of eight short-listed cookery students. The Discovery Dinner initiative from the University of Aberdeen’s Public Engagement with Science unit takes the popular cafe science format one step further, allowing members of the public to enjoy a full dinner while engaging with researchers across a range of topical subjects.

Mark Wins at SQA Big Experiment!

HND Science student Mark Tan Proctor recently won the SQA Big Experiment – a national science competition. Mark conducted a microbiological and nutritional analysis of different milks, such as cow and soya milk. Mark attended the glittering SQA Star Awards in Glasgow to collect his award.

Wrights and Coopers Awards

A special presentation to celebrate the work of young craftsmen, hosted by the Seven Incorporated Trades of Aberdeen was held at Trinity Hall. This year’s winner of the much coveted William Daniel Award which is sponsored by the Wrights and Coopers Incorporation – one of Aberdeen’s seven incorporated trades, was Mark Cooper (20) from Inverurie, Aberdeenshire. Mark made a coffee table which was based on the design of a snooker table with four imitation corner pockets in the form of turned coasters.

Student Achievement and Citizenship Awards

Students from across the college enjoy a day of recognition when Aberdeen College host a special award ceremony for students who have demonstrated outstanding citizenship and for those whose achievement has been exemplary.
