Awards Ceremony
Every year over 400 students receive congratulations for achieving advanced level qualifications (HNC/HND) from the Scottish Qualifications Authority (SQA), professional qualifications and post-graduate qualifications at the Aberdeen College annual awards ceremony at Aberdeen’s Beach Ballroom.
International Day
International Day has become an extremely popular event and a ‘must go to’ in diaries at Aberdeen College. It’s a day when students, friends and staff get together to celebrate the different countries they come from. Stalls are set up with colourful traditional costumes, arts & crafts, photographs and musical instruments. There are presentations and performances, competitions and mouthwatering snacks to enjoy. It’s a great way to meet new friends and to learn about the many different cultures and traditions from around the world.
University Progression Day
Representatives from all institutions the College articulates to with come together for one day so that students can receive information on university courses available to them under the 2+2 agreements.
Hair and Beauty Festival
Hairdressing and beauty therapy trainees and students from across the North-East take part in an annual competition which is organised by the College’s Hairdressing and Beauty Team. Students can compete in a wide variety of competitions such as First Time Freestyle, Men’s Commercial Style, Commercial Day Style, Ladies Evening Style, High Fashion Competition, Afro-Caribbean, Cover Girl Make-up Competition, Fantasy Make-up and Manicure.
Energy@Abcol
Over 300 students attended the first Energy@Abcol event at the new Altens building. The event aimed to highlight the increasing range of career opportunities in oil and gas, and renewable energies. Representatives from various companies such as OPITO, ECITB, Construction Skills, Wood Group and AMEC attended the busy event.
Internet Safety Day
Aberdeen College took part in a worldwide campaign to highlight issues surrounding Internet Safety and Cyber Bullying to young people. Drama and Computing Students joined forces to help get the message out to their peers about the issues surrounding their "Virtual Lives". VoiceFM – the student radio station, broadcast interviews with staff and students relating to the issues affecting young people using the Internet today, and Grampian Police provided presentations relating to Online Safety and Cyber Bullying.
Beauty Students Benefit Breast Cancer
Aberdeen College Beauty students raised over £700 towards Breast Cancer Care throughout October 2010. The money was raised through charitable donations for beauty treatments and a special raffle with fabulous prizes.
